Which weed eater / line trimmer is BEST?
My husband and I need a new weed eater / line timmer / weed-wacker…..it’s called many things! You know what I mean though.
We’ve decided to go with a gas instead of electric. And we are prepared to pay between $150 and $250 because we want a nice one (echo or stihl).
But at the store we noticed that they have a new kind. It is where you can just re-load trimmer line ’sticks’, instead of winding the ever-tangling spool.
My husband wants to go for the trimmer that just has replacement sticks, because he hates re-loading the spool.
I however like the fact that with the spool you can ‘tap it’ to extend more line. With the re-loadable sticks, wouldn’t you have to stop every two-dozen feet, turn it upside down, put two more sticks in, over an over again? To me this seems tedious. Do the sticks last longer then the line on the spool does?
Are there any professionals out there who would reccomend one over the other? And for what reasons?

I have experience with both, and I prefer the line trimmers, although that is just opinion. I have gotten pretty good at making the line submit to my will, and so do not have many problems with it. I like that you can put a lot on and go through 2 or 3 tanks of gas before you have to change it again. The sticks are easier to put on, and they do last almost as long as a spool of line. They are thicker, and so don’t break as easily.
I would recommend getting the stick trimmer if that is what you both want. I also recommend Stihl. I have several different Stihl weedeaters, and they have all worked well. I also recommend the straight shaft over the curved shaft. I have used both kinds many times, and really prefer the straight shaft design. For me, it is easier to use and seems to work better and faster.
You might also want to consult someone at a lawn and garden store, as this is just my opinion.
