Anyone know if the Henley MBA (UK) is recognised/accepted by companies or universities in the USA or Canada?
I’m thinking of doing this MBA, but I’m worried that it won’t be accepted in the USA or Canada when I’m finished. Does anyone have any first-hand experience to share or know of someone else’s experience with this degree in the USA/Canada?
Thanks RoaringMice for your answer. Yes I’m thinking of doing the Henley MBA thru distance learning because the other AASCB MBAs are too far away for me to attend on campus. It’s a bit discouraging to find out that employers aren’t too keen on DL MBAs.
Henley is unknown in the US, so there is that. It’s not like LBS (and some other U London colleges) or Oxford or INSEAD, which have reputations that do follow to the US. That said, it is AACSB accredited. That means that it is reputable, and that US employers will accept it as a “real” MBA degree.
So long as the program is AACSB accredited, it is acceptable. If it were not, or if that were in doubt, this would be an entirely different conversation.
Is this an online programme, or in person? If you’re going in person, you’re golden. However, if it’s an online program, and you’re based in the US, and you plan to work in the US, I strongly suggest that you reconsider, and instead find an AACSB accredited program that is local to you. So many employers frown on online MBAs that making it obvious that you did it online, for example, by being in Nebraska but getting your degree from London, is just asking for issues. Employers looking for MBAs strongly prefer that you attend an AACSB accredited program in person (read that as, they sometimes refuse to hire online attendees.) If you can not attend a program in person – if you literally can not set foot on a campus – at least attend an AACSB accredited program that is within reasonable driving distance (say, 2-3 hours, maybe more) of your home. That way, it’s not obvious from your resume what you did. If they ask, of course you tell them, but they usually don’t ask unless it’s obvious.
