What is the pressure (PSI) when there is an ignition in a car engine ( gas ) ? say a 3,000 CC Chevy?
What is the PSI in a gas internal combustion engine? such as a Ford or Chevy or MB. What is the pressure that pushes the piston downward, which creates the power that moves the crankshaft.
If I understand your question correctly, you are asking how much combustion pressure is in the cylinder when the air/fuel mixture ignites? I do emissions testing and development work on a Hyundai 3.3L V6. the cylinder heads have been modified to accept in-cylinder pressure transducers to record peak cylinder pressures. In this engine, we normally see 60 bar or roughly 870 psi of peak pressure on the combustion stroke. Hitting a piston with a sledge hammer has nothing to do with combustion pressures. Yes, you can have valves embedded into the top of pistons when a timing chain lets go but that is all about inertia of the moving parts when they collide, not cylinder pressure.
